Evolution of fashion.

Fashion and Styling

Evolution of fashion,

The evolution of fashion is the change in how people perceive clothing, from a practical tool to a means of a self-expression, identity, and social change. Some key moments in the history of fashion include:

  • The 1920s
The flapper look, popularized by Coco Chanel, featured knee-length hemlines and boyish silhouettes. The jazz age influenced fashion, emphasizing freedom and movement. Sportswear became more popular, and stylish clothing became more accessible to the masses.

The 1970s
Punk fashion was popular, featuring ripped t-shirts, chains, and flared trousers. Bell-bottoms, tie-dye, platform boots, and high-waisted jeans were also popular.
  • The 1940s and 1950s
Dior's New Look in 1947 marked the beginning of a momentous decade in fashion history. Dior called the years between 1947-1957 “the Golden Age”.
Other eras in fashion history include:
  • Ancient Egypt (3100 BC – 332 BC)
  • Ancient Greece (800 BC – 146 BC)
  • Renaissance (14th – 17th century)
  • Victorian Era (1837 – 1901)
  • Swinging Sixties (1960s)
  • Contemporary Fashion (2000s – Present)
The life cycle of a fashion trend typically includes five stages: introduction, rise, peak, decline, and obsolescence. However, technology and social media have made fashion trends shorter and less predictable than in the past.
